The European SYSTEM project (Synergy of integrated Sensors and Technologies for urban Secured Environment), launched on September 1, 2018, aimed to develop and test a customized system for detecting hazardous substances in public service networks and urban spaces. The primary focus was on designing and demonstrating a data fusion system for continuous monitoring of threats related to the production and handling of specific hazardous elements in Europe. The main challenge was to integrate and analyze heterogeneous data from multiple sources while ensuring privacy protection and compliance with ethical and legal standards. The system needed to merge data from different sensor networks and provide law enforcement with enriched, actionable insights for evaluating potential danger in defined urban areas.
RESI participated as a technology partner, developing and implementing an advanced Data-Fusion System capable of collecting, processing, and analyzing data from diverse sources, including:
- Environmental sensors (air and wastewater)
- Smart City sensors
- Meteorological information
- Public Administration sources
- Other relevant external data
The platform allowed real-time aggregation and correlation of all incoming data, providing law enforcement with advanced tools to assess and manage potential threats. The system was tested and adapted in seven urban areas, with strong attention to data security, privacy, and ethical compliance.
RESI’s solution enabled continuous, integrated monitoring of urban areas, improving the timely detection of hazardous substances and supporting law enforcement in operational decision-making. The platform demonstrated flexibility and scalability, while ensuring compliance with privacy and ethical standards.
